The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana, ActionAid, and Children Believe, has officially launched the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy under the theme “Invest in Childhood for a Brighter Future” at the Accra Trade House.

The programme aimed at strengthening support for children aged 0 to 8 years and ensure their holistic development.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, emphasised the significance of the policy.

“This programme is more than a ceremonial occasion; it is a bold declaration that the future of our children is at the heart of government.” she noted.

She explained that the policy is anchored on six key domains—health, nutrition, early learning, responsive caregiving, safety, and security—to ensure that children receive the support, protection, and inclusion they need.

She noted that initiatives such as the school feeding programme and other child-focused policies are designed to benefit children from birth to eight years, providing a strong foundation for their growth and development.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Helen Adjoa Ntoso, welcomed the passage of the policy, describing it as a milestone in supporting young children.

She emphasised that the initiative prioritises the well-being and inclusion of children, ensuring their needs are addressed directly rather than solely through parental support.
