Preparations for tomorrow’s funeral ceremony for Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have been thrown into doubt after a fresh ruling from the Accra High Court placed an injunction stopping the first respondent from organising his burial.
Work was in full swing at the Heroes Park near the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi when news of the last-minute injunction from Daddy Lumba’s maternal family broke, disappointing fans who had arrived at the venue to observe the preparations.
Even as workers continued erecting canopies, stages and seating structures, reactions among fans split sharply; some praised the injunction as necessary to ensure a dignified and properly coordinated burial, while others insisted the funeral must proceed despite the court’s order.
Preparations began late Thursday night, with workers indicating they expected to finish setting up by evening. The funeral, earlier announced by the late musician’s family, was scheduled for Friday, December 13.
The family head, Kofi Owusu, had earlier invited sympathisers in a viral video to join the family for the ceremony on Saturday.
However, the preparations have suffered a major setback after the maternal family secured an injunction restraining the first respondent from organising the funeral and preventing the release of Daddy Lumba’s body until the substantive case is heard and determined.
The development has triggered mixed reactions among admirers and family members as the situation continues to unfold.
