Petrol and diesel prices are coming down slightly at the pumps in the second pricing window of October, which began at 8:00am on Friday, October 16, 2026, but cooking gas is going the other way, with LPG projected to jump by more than 18 percent.

Star Oil, the first to announce, has cut petrol from GH¢16.64 to GH¢16.45 a litre. The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) expects the average price of petrol across the market to settle at about GH¢17.67, down close to 2 percent, and diesel at about GH¢19.30, down 3.32 percent. LPG is projected to rise 18.5 percent to about GH¢20.60 a kilogram.

Fuel prices in Ghana, October 16–31, 2026

Diesel: about GH¢19.30/litre market average

LPG: about GH¢20.60/kg, up 18.5%

Fuel prices this window

Diesel GH¢19.30 per litre down 3.32% GH¢17.09 (was GH¢17.97)

Why petrol is coming down and gas is going up

COMAC’s outlook for the window put the average price of crude oil up 2.03 percent at US$126.73 a barrel, driven by supply concerns involving Ukraine and Saudi Arabia amid the war with Iran. But what matters at the pump is the price of the refined products Ghana imports, and there the picture was mixed: petrol fell 3.93 percent and diesel 6.68 percent on the world market, while LPG rose 7.77 percent. The cedi also lost 1.61 percent in the period COMAC measured. LPG’s projected rise at home, 18.5 percent, is far bigger than its rise on the world market, and the NPA’s floor price for LPG has gone up by a quarter, from GH¢11.10 to GH¢13.87 a kilo. COMAC credited recent government subsidy measures with holding prices down.

How far prices have come since July

For drivers and trotro operators, the small relief this window does not undo the climb of the last three months. At the start of July, Star Oil was selling petrol at GH¢12.79 a litre and GOIL diesel at GH¢15.35. Star Oil’s petrol price today, GH¢16.45, is about 29 percent higher than it was then. The first October window held prices steady with government support, but there had been fears that petrol could cross GH¢20 a litre if crude kept rising.

How fuel prices are set in Ghana

Ghana has deregulated petroleum pricing, which means each oil marketing company sets its own pump price, but within a framework run by the National Petroleum Authority. Prices are reviewed twice a month, in pricing windows that start on the 1st and the 16th. Before each window, the NPA publishes price floors, the minimum each product can be sold for, based on world prices, the exchange rate and the taxes and levies. The companies then add their margins and announce their pump prices; some do so on the morning the window opens, while others review theirs over the following days.

When do fuel prices change in Ghana?

Twice a month, on the 1st and the 16th. The next pricing window opens on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Which station has the cheapest fuel?

It changes from window to window. This window, Star Oil’s petrol price of GH¢16.45 is more than a cedi below the market average COMAC projected. Check the prices displayed at the station before you fill up.

Why is diesel more expensive than petrol?

The two products are priced separately, each off its own world price. This window diesel is about GH¢1.60 a litre dearer than petrol on COMAC’s averages, and it was dearer at the start of July as well.
